Summary

Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a disease with special features that give it a grim prognosis. The recent development of new laboratory techniques with diagnostic or therapeutic implications and the appearance of different generations of tyrosine kinase inhibitors have improved the management of this disease significantly and had a positive impact on its prognosis. To analyze this transformation appropriately, a comprehensive review of the evidence published to this day has been conducted to establish the body of scientific knowledge in this area. Afterwards, a list of recommendations applicable to diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of Ph+ ALL patients were defined. The recommendations issued by the authors were evaluated by a large panel of experts. This document includes a brief update on the knowledge on Ph+ ALL, and a selection of recommendations agreed by experts from Spain and Portugal. These were considered especially relevant in the clinical management of adult patients with Ph+ ALL based on the technological advances in this area and the therapies currently available.

Keywords:  Acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Philadelphia chromosome. Measurable residual disease. Mutational analysis. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Allogeneic stem cell transplant.
